Dr. James Spencer, Jr.

Dr. Jim has served on the Contact For
Health physician staff since October, 1992.
Dr. Jim's Bio:
Dr. Jim was born on August 30, 1959, in
Montpelier, Ohio, to Jim
Sr. and Beverly Spencer. He graduated from Hudson Area High School in
1977. Upon graduating, Dr. Jim served in the United States Navy for eight
years. He completed basic training at Great Lakes Recruit Training Command
in Chicago, Illinois. From there, he attended aviation ordinance school in
Millington, Tennessee. In March of 1978, Dr. Jim reported aboard the U.S.S.
Forestall CV-59, an aircraft carrier based in Mayport, Florida. He was
assigned to weapons department G-3 (ship's magazines). Onboard the
Forestall, he made three deployments to the Mediterranean Sea. Before
separating in July of 1981, Dr. Jim obtained the rank of E5/Second-Class
Petty Officer. He remained a member of the active reserve in Pueblo,
Colorado, until re-enlisting in the active Navy in November of 1982. Upon
returning to active duty, Dr. Jim attended NavVet (Navy Veteran) training at
San Diego Recruit Training Command in California. From there, he reported
to the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy CV-67, based in Norfolk, Virginia, and was
assigned to weapons department G-3 (ship's magazine). |

| He crossed the
Equator in the Fall of '83, and earned the distinction of becoming a
'shellback.' After a short stay in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, the Kennedy was
deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea to serve with the multi-national
peacekeeping forces in Lebanon. Dr. Jim earned the rank of E6/First-Class
Petty Officer (AO1) during this time. He was awarded the good conduct
medal, Navy Achievement medal, and an Expeditionary medal, as well as
numerous other service ribbons. Dr. Jim received his second discharge in
November of 1984. While serving in the Navy, Dr. Jim met Janet Shrope of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The two were married on August 24, 1985, in Hudson,
Michigan. In January of 1986, Dr. Jim began attending
Jackson Community College
(Jackson, Michigan), and earned a degree in Business Management in December of
1987. While attending JCC, he served as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 602 in
Hudson, and completed his Woodbadge training in 1989. He then completed his
pre-chiropractic requirements at JCC. On February 7, 1988, Dr. Jim and Jan became the proud parents of a
daughter, Danielle Ashley Spencer. In July of 1989, Dr. Jim matriculated at
Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport,
Iowa. While there, Dr. Jim joined the
Pi Kappa Chi professional fraternity, and
served as secretary and president. Drawing from his involvement in Boy Scouts,
he served as a unit commissioner for the Illowa Council, and started the
Chiropractic Explorer Post, based at Palmer. Dr. Jim graduated from Palmer in
October of 1992. In addition to earning his D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic)
degree, he earned a B.S. degree in science, and earned diplomate status with the
National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
Following graduation, Dr. Jim joined his father,
Dr. Jim Sr., in the Contact
For Health Chiropractic Centers in Hudson and Reading, Michigan. Dr. Jim is
currently working toward his diplomate in Chiropractic Radiology, a
three-hundred hour program. He has served two years as team physician for the
Jackson Jaguars semi-pro football team. On December 10, 1993, a son was born at
home to the family, Derek Palmer Spencer. Dr. Jim delivered his second son,
Dominic Michael, at home on September 28, 1997. In February of 2001, Dr.
Jim was named as a staff physician at
Hillsdale Community Health Center in Hillsdale, MI. This hospital
is one of the very first in the state to have Doctors of Chiropractic
serving as staff physicians. This allows greater cooperation among
health care providers of different disciplines, and better care options for
HCHC's patients. Dr. Dan also serves on the
HCHC physician staff. Both doctors serve on the Family Practice and
Outpatient Services Committees.
Dr. Jim was one of the first members of the Hudson Jaycees,
serving as the chapter's charter president. He is a member of the American
Legion Post 180, and a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Post
3730. He has been a member of the Hudson city planning commission for
several
years. Dr. Jim is also a charter member of the Lenawee County (MI) Woodcarvers,
and has served as secretary/treasurer of the club. He also holds
memberships in the Lenawee County Family Researchers, Ancestry Club, Genealogy
by Computing Club, and the Spencer Historical and Genealogical Society, all of
which are genealogical research clubs. Dr. Jim has made his
family tree
available on this site for all who would like to see it. He has been very
involved in the 'living history' of the Civil War, re-enacting a soldier
from the 18th Michigan Volunteer Infantry. Also, Dr. Jim is an
active Century Club member of the Michigan Chiropractic Society.
Dr. Jim's family is also very involved in
re-creating their Scottish ancestral heritage. Dr. Jim and Derek both
play the highland bagpipes in the
Hillsdale College pipe & drum band, Tulloch Ard. Dominic is
currently learning to play bagpipes on his practice chanter, and Danielle
plays bass drum and performs the sword dance. Further, the family has
been very involved in French & Indian War re-enacting with the 42nd Royal
Highlanders. |
